MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (WHNT) - After two years of discussion, Muscle Shoals city council members placed a bid for the ambulance service that will service the city. The bid went to Keller EMS.

Mayor David Bradford said the decision wasn't easy but he believes it was the right one for the city.

“‘We're basically operating off of the Attorney General's opinion to put this out for bids. And the bids/packets had to be submitted and opened. The council received them and also the committee which was made up of the fire chief, assistant fire chief and our purchasing officer. They made the recommendation of Keller EMS based off of the best responsive competitive bid,” said Bradford.

City leaders said other factors that went into the decision making process were pricing, staffing and location.

During the three-year period that Keller EMS will provide service to Muscle Shoals, the city will monitor the performance of Keller EMS to make sure the company is providing quality care to residents.

Before the city continues with the process, it will send a letter to the Colbert County 911 board to see if it will honor the council's decision.
