LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala – Authorities have identified the two missing fishermen as Jacob and Jeremiah Sanders of Florence. Crews began their search for the brothers after a report that they were overdue Wednesday night.

Jacob Sanders is a member of the band The Velcro Pygmies. The band’s Facebook page has been posting information about the missing men all day long.

Around 2:40 a.m. Thursday, search crews found a small bass boat trapped under the Singing River Bridge. That boat has been positively identified as belonging to the missing fishermen. The boat had hull damage, suggesting an accident happened on the water, officials said.

A cell phone ping narrowed the search area to a mile and a half area. Several agencies are involved, using a helicopter and divers.

Family and friends were on the banks of the water for most of the day Thursday, hoping for the best, but fearing the worst.

Crews suspended their search efforts for the night and will continue in the early hours of Friday morning. While they’re still hopeful of finding the men alive, authorities say this is likely now a recovery operation.
