KILLEN, Ala. (WHNT) – Police say three men stole cars from a Killen car dealership, then took a joy ride around the Shoals.

One suspect is in custody and the cars have been recovered.

Thursday morning, a dirty footprint lingered as evidence after police say the three suspects kicked in the door to Action Auto Sales over night.

According to detectives, Jonathan Thompson and two other people ransacked the office, looking for keys.  After an interview with detectives, Thompson was taken into custody.  Police are looking for 18-year-old Chandler Dylan Pigg of Florence and 19-year-old Dakota Dylan Stults of Florence for their connection to this case.

The suspects found the stash and police say the men drove two Mustangs off the lot.

“I have no idea how they could get that far off key, really, I don`t,” said Sergeant Dennis Tate with the Killen Police Department.  “I don`t know what their intentions were but they didn`t stay out too long.”

Investigators worked throughout the night tracking down leads and finally police found the stolen cars, abandoned along Savannah Highway in Florence and County Road 30 in Saint Florian.

“It`s serious, it is, there could have been more damage done, I`ll just say that,” said Sergeant Tate.

One mustang had a flat tire, the other car had damage to the bumper.  Both cars are now back at Action Auto Sales waiting for repairs.

“That was the bright light of the whole situation; he was able to get his property back,” said Sergeant Tate.

Police say this short joy ride landed Jonathon Thompson with several charges, including burglary and theft of property.

Killen police say they have the other two suspects in this case identified.  Detectives expect warrants for their arrest should be served in the coming days.
