FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A Franklin County man was killed in a one-car accident involving a horse.

Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver confirms 55-year-old Richard Hugh Murphy of the Oak Grove community died Thursday. Oliver confirms  Murphy’s car hit a horse  late at night on Franklin 724, about three miles east of Russellville. He died at the scene.

Officials said the crash also killed the horse.

Tina Rosekrans was a passenger in Murphy’s car. She was airlifted to and treated at Huntsville Hospital. Oliver also confirmed Rosekrans was in an accident earlier in the day. Murphey was driving her to the hospital visit a friend who was hurt in that previous accident.

Alabama State Troopers will continue to investigate.
