An hours-long standoff in Lauderdale County ends peacefully

The standoff in Lauderdale County has ended peacefully. The sheriff’s office says the man who had barricaded himself inside the home says he came out after deputies made contact with him.

This ended a standoff that began around 9:00 Thursday morning.

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. – Lauderdale County authorities found themselves in a standoff with a man in a home late Thursday morning.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were assisting with an eviction at a home near the intersection of County Road 8 and U.S. Highway 43 around 9 a.m. when the resident, identified as 35-year-old Brian Reed, decided to barricade himself in the home.

Authorities said they believe Reed is armed and possibly heavily armed. They said he has made threats against people in the past.

Lauderdale County deputies and Florence police were on the scene.
