FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) - During this holiday season, theft related crimes have been on the rise in the Shoals.

“We have had a number of armed robberies that have occurred throughout the Shoals. We have seen a pattern in vehicle and residential burglaries,” said Florence police detective Brad Holmes.

According to Holmes, you could avoid being a victim of burglaries by keeping your car doors locked, your house doors locked and by keeping expensive valuables in a private place.

"Observe those little minute things that might be important when investigating and ultimately identifying the suspect. Notice their hair color and style. What they are wearing, if they have glasses on wearing any particular type of tennis shoes," said Holmes.

If you have been a victim of these crimes contact your local police department.
