Family of 3 taken to hospital, injured in Florence house fire

FLORENCE, Ala. - A family of three was taken to the hospital this morning after a house fire on Hermitage Drive. Emergency vehicles had the road blocked while they cleared the scene.

The fire was called in just after 6:15 Tuesday morning. When fire fighters arrived, they forced a door open to check for residents.

They immediately saw an adult female carrying two dogs and were able to get her to safety. Fire fighters then turned their attention to the woman`s elderly parents.

They were in a back bedroom filled with smoke.

Firemen say they were able to pull them to safety and immediately transported all three to Eliza Coffee Memorial hospital.

Authorities confirm the daughter has been treated and released for smoke inhalation, the elderly couple were both admitted to the hospital for extended care.

Once all three residents were being cared for, firemen focused on extinguishing the fire. They were able to keep in contained to the kitchen area.
