FLORENCE, Ala. – Police in Florence are hoping someone can help them catch a woman who is accused of ripping off several wedding parties over the last few months. We spoke with several people who believe the woman was an uninvited guest on their special day
Jensen Nicholson still looks fondly at her March wedding but something wasn’t right. “One of my friends asked me, ‘did you get my card?’ I said no. And she said, ‘that had $100 in it.'”
Once the honeymoon was over, Jensen says she found out several cards from her wedding were missing. She believes a woman police are searching for is behind the theft. “My friend caught her in the bride’s room by herself with the door shut.”
The venue hosting Nicholson’s reception didn’t capture the woman on camera but last weekend, a church surveillance camera in Florence did. Once shared to social media, Jensen says she and at least one other bride knew immediately because she was wearing the same outfit.
“She came in late. Almost when it was over,” said Ernie Perez.
Anna Perez Todd, Ernie’s daughter who got married in Florence said last weekend’s theft was especially disheartening because they weren’t asking for gifts. Her five-year-old daughter has a rare disease known as FOXG1 Syndrome. They told people attending the wedding any gifts of money would be given to help research the disorder.
“That lady, she stole from the handicapped,” Ernie said. “Not only that, but she violated the sanctity of a house of worship. That is so important.”
What’s important now for grandfather Ernie, is caring for granddaughter Aria, while his daughter and her new husband are enjoying their honeymoon.
“I don’t wish anything bad on her, but hopefully, she won’t be able to do it again,” said Nicholson.
Nicholson says she estimates the woman stole a few hundred dollars from her special day. Perez and his wife say at least that much was stolen at his granddaughter’s wedding as well.
