FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) - Firefighters in Florence have spent the morning battling a blaze at a plastics manufacturing facility in the city's industrial park.

According to fire officials, the fire at American Excelsior Company was reported just before 1:30 a.m. Investigators say when they got to the plant, the fire was primarily in the warehouse portion of the building.

The company employes roughly 30 employees.  Seven of them were on shift when the fire started.  None of the employees were hurt.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire within an hour, but they continue to extinguish hot spots at this time.  They say the fire started in a storage building attached to the main building where hay is stored.

There were several small explosions heard from the site, where fire investigators say fuel storage tanks were located at the plant.

A company spokesperson says employees are back at work today, but the manufacturing won't be back to full operation until Monday.
