SHEFFIELD, Ala. – Sheffield Police said a child was injured and a man has been charged in a shooting Tuesday morning.

Police were called to Blake Apartments near Jackson Highways at 10:30 a.m. and found a three-year-old boy had been shot in the lower leg.

The child was taken to Helen Keller Hospital and was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Wednesday, Sheffield Police Chief Ricky Terry said the department had charged Jakilus Keyveyun Ricks, 18, with second-degree assault.

Terry said Ricks recklessly endangered the child’s life and he was booked into the Colbert County Jail on a $7,500 bond.
