MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – An assistant football coach and teacher at Muscle Shoals High School has pleaded guilty to a domestic violence assault.

Courthouse officials confirm to WHNT News 19 44-year-old Chris Balentine entered the plea on Thursday. He has been ordered into a pre-trial diversion program for domestic violence offenders.

Authorities say the assault charge stems from an incident on Halloween night in which his wife received a broken nose.

School officials suspended Balentine for five days, which included tonight’s playoff game.

If Balentine completes the diversion program, the case will be dismissed.
