FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – Authorities in Shoals say a man who walked away from the Lauderdale County Work Release Center late last week is back in custody.

According to Lauderdale County District Attorney Mike Bishop, Keith Lamar Beckwith has been in police custody since Friday on charges with the City of Florence.

22-year-old Keith Lamar Beckwith was indicted last march on charges of sodomy, rape and sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old.

Investigators said at the time of his arrest that the victim was seven years old when the rape took place.

It wasn’t until a few years later that the victim came forward, and police say Keith Beckwith was a teenager when the rape happened.

A warrant for Beckwith’s arrest was issued Monday afternoon by Circuit Judge Mike Jones.

According to court records, last week Judge Jones had given Beckwith work release duties until his trial date, which is set for April 15th.
