FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) - For the last time, the Shoals will welcome two teams to play the NCAA Division II National Championship game in Florence.

The teams are welcomed by a committee that works throughout the year to make this experience memorable.

"You go anywhere in this country and mention DII and everybody knows it's held in Florence, Alabama," said Steve Pierce, team host and member of the Shoals National Championship Committee.

Pierce has been a member of the Shoals National Championship Committee for the last 26 years. He says even though all good times must come to an end, he’s proud of being a part of the team that put Alabama on the map.

Earlier this month, the NCAA announced it won't be coming back to Florence. Pierce says the change will create an impact in his life. He has also created memories and friends from being a part of this committee.

"We meet every Tuesday starting after the first of the year, preparing for the next year's game. But it's going to be kind of sad not meeting with the group. Now I will look at my agenda and not have to meet with the committee on Tuesday," said Pierce.

The last championship game will be played on Saturday at Braly stadium in Florence.
