Shoals Woman Loses Appeal For Murder Conviction

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WHNT) – The Alabama Court of Criminal appeals has held up the conviction and death sentence of a Franklin County woman for killing her 6-year-old son in a fire.

Christie Michelle Scott was convicted of capital murder in July 2009.  The following month, Judge Terry Dempsey overrode the jury’s recommendation of life in prison and sentenced scott to death.

Court records show the appeals court judges were unanimous in their decision.

Attorneys say Scott is prepared to take the case to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
