TUSCUMBIA, Ala. (WHNT) - A Shoals landmark known for its chili dogs had customers stopping by for a different reason in December.

Now Sparkey's Drive-in is finally on the verge of reopening, nearly six months after a driver slammed into the restaurant.

“It`s kinda like a tradition, a lot of people have come over the generations with their parents and grandparents,” said one of Sparkey’s regular customers, Clint Nunley.

A truck plowed into the side of the building on December 26th, 2012.

“It was upsetting,” said Nunley.  “My first thought was about them and their business and everything and hoping they can get it back open and everything.”

The owners vowed to rebuild, and within a week of the accident, a make-shift Sparkey’s Drive-in popped up in Spring Park.

“We`re waiting for them to get the new one open and we`ll try to come by and give them some more business,” said Nunley.

The Nunley family won't have to wait much longer.

Construction crews prepare to repave the parking lot and then the new Sparkey's Drive-in will be ready for business.

Owners of Sparkey's Drive-in expect the restaurant to be up and running again in the next few weeks.
