SHEFFIELD, Ala. (WHNT) – Investigators continue to unravel the events that led to a Colbert County man being shot and killed during what appears to be a home invasion.

The shooting happened at a home in the 200 block of Sterling Boulevard just before 10pm.

According to Chief Greg Ray, 27 year-old Dorian Cliff Hamilton died from at least one gun shot wound shortly after being transported to Helen Keller Hospital.

Witnesses at the home tell police two men burst in and attempted to rob the people inside.

Chief Ray says that Hamilton was attempting to keep the men out of a back bedroom when one of the intruders shot through the door, striking Hamilton.

Detectives are using witness statements from people in the home and evidence at the scene to develop suspects in the murder case.
