MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) - This weekend, the Alabama Department of Revenue is offering a sales tax holiday on a variety of items that can keep you safe in a storm.

"Be prepared just in case," says David Childers, a manager of Academy Sports + Outdoors.

New this year, cell phone chargers are on the list along with generators, water bottles, and just about every battery you can think of, minus ones for cars. Weather radios, ice packs, and gas tanks are eligible too. Childers points out these items can have other uses as well. "Gas can for your lawn mower, batteries for a flashlight, a new flashlight, different things of that nature," he says.

The tax holiday begins Friday February 26 and wraps up Sunday February 28 at the end of business hours.
