LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. – The search for a person in a possible drowning is now a recovery effort, according to officials.
Emergency crews responded to reports of a missing boater on Wheeler Lake in western Limestone County around 8:43 p.m. on Tuesday night. Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Marine Patrol Troopers said the incident involved one boat with two people aboard.
Troopers say Derrick Lane, 56, was still missing. Lane either jumped or fell out of a boat Tuesday night, according to authorities.
The search was suspended around midnight and resumed Wednesday morning.
Troopers say Athens-Limestone Search & Rescue, Rogersville PD and FD, the Morgan County Rescue Squad, and Limestone County Sheriff’s Office are assisting with the search.
