School bus driver charged with sex crimes involving children

LINCOLN COUNTY, Tenn. (WHNT) - A man who works as a bus driver for Madison County Schools was arrested recently for serious criminal charges involving children.

Joe Wiley Dixon was arrested on Thursday, January 15 in Lincoln County, Tennessee.

He is charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count of aggravated rape of a child.  Dixon has bonded out of the Lincoln County Jail.

Madison County Superintendent of Education Matt Massey confirms Dixon has resigned as a school bus driver.  He drove for Sparkman High School.  Massey said the school system checked with Lincoln County investigators to confirm no Madison County children were involved in the case.

Additional sources tell WHNT News 19 these arrests do not involve any students on the bus Dixon drove.   Sources say the crimes happened at a residential child care service run by Dixon's wife on Stateline Road in Ardmore and involved two children under the age of 5.  As of Tuesday, her daycare remained open.

UPDATE: The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department released a statement on Tuesday saying their office was made aware December 1st of the sexual allegations against Joe Dixon. They began to investigate the case.

"Although the investigation is still pending, law enforcement felt there was enough probable cause to arrest Mr. Dixon."

Dixon was arrested January 15 and his bond was set at $75,000.

"The Sheriff's Department will not confirm or deny any polygraph and/or confession in this investigation and due to an active investigation still in progress, Lincoln County Sheriff's Department will have no further comment."
