(WHNT) - A college with a less than sparkling cafeteria and two hot spots with pests on their hands.  Here’s the dish on who's not keeping a clean kitchen for the week of October 11th.

First up, we highlight Snead State Community College in Boaz at 220 N. Walnut Street.   Marshall County health inspectors uncovered several violations, leaving the college with a score of 67.

  • Sliced melon at 55 degrees
  • Walk-in cooler at 48 degrees
  • Broken flour sifters
  • Catfish at 110 degrees

Next, Vulcan Express at 13730 Highway 168 East in Boaz.   This gas station and convenience store scored a 79.

  • Opened drink bottle in cooler
  • Pest Issues: This could mean insects, rodents, etc.

Finally, we head to Morgan County to Jet-Pep Fast Food at 2508 Highway 20 in Decatur.  This gas station and fast food spot scored a 73.

  • Toxic cleaners on the ice maker
  • A dirty fountain drink machine
  • Flies buzzing behind the dumpster where litter and garbage was found

All three eateries were told to clean up their act.

Keep in mind, at all restaurants in the state of Alabama, a satisfactory score is 85 or above.  A score of 59 or less would result in an immediate suspension of a restaurant’s food permit and they would close.

An establishment that scores below 85 is required to correct their critical violations within 24 to 48 hours and be re-inspected within 60 days.  A score of below 60 results in closure and the establishment will not be allowed to legally re-open until all critical violations are abated and their inspection score is 85 or above.

As for our Golden Spoon award, Cold Stone Creamery at 2750 Carl T. Jones Parkway in Huntsville received a high score of 99.  Creamy & Clean!
