REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- Drivers using Redstone Arsenal's Gate One will experience some delays this week due to repairs from storm damage.

"Starting today, Team Redstone personnel are repairing storm damage at Gate One," explained Redstone Arsenal spokesperson Christopher Colster. "What that's going to require is to shut down Gate One after 1:30 [p.m.] every day this week and divert traffic into the commercial truck lane."

Colster says most of the work will be completed during overnight hours, and the main inbound lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. for the morning commute. The outbound lanes are not affected by the repairs.

"The storm damage happened early in April. It's minor damage, but to provide a safe environment for workers, it's required that we shut down the gate," said Colster.

He explained rivets came loose in the canopy above the inbound lanes.

Repair work is slated to continue until Saturday, October 13, but Colster says the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers got an early start on the project over the weekend, so the repairs and resulting closures may not last all week.

"We see about 10-15% of our daily traffic come through Gate One, Gate Nine gets the majority of traffic," said Colster. "But anytime we shut down a lane or a gate, you can cause traffic back-ups at any gate so we ask our drivers to take a look at their route in the morning and be patient when they come in."
