REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (WHNT) - Officials with Redstone Arsenal say Gate 3 will resume normal operation at 1 p.m. Tuesday. It had had been closed for most commuters on Monday morning due to high waters.

Team Redstone had asked that Gate 3 be kept for people who work on the south end. Garrison Commander Col. Bill Marks said that many people may use Gate 3 to get onto Patton Road and head north across the arsenal, but the way was blocked by the high water from Huntsville Spring Branch overflowing onto part of Patton, in the area north of Redstone Road close to the bridge.

Gate 3 normally opens at 5:30 a.m. on weekdays. The inbound lane closes at 1 p.m. on weekdays. The outbound lane closes at 6 p.m. weekdays. It is closed on weekends.

"We certainly appreciate everyone's cooperation during the recent flooding," said Marks, "we're extremely appreciative of our Directorate of Emergency Services personnel who reacted quickly and decisively to ensure the safety of our workforce."

Marks said commuters should still remain cautious and slow their speed while driving through the area of south Patton Road. The flood waters along both sides of the road can be several feet deep.
