HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Huntsville-Madison Railroad Authority along with AL Operation Lifesaver is holding a drill today about the dangers of trespassing on railroad tracks.

There have been four fatalities involving pedestrians being struck and killed by a train in town this past year. Two of the incidents happened in October at Triana and Holmes Avenue. We have seen two other fatal train versus pedestrian incidents; one was just off Old Madison Pike and another was close to downtown near Holmes Avenue.

The drill will be at 10:00 this morning at 119 Woodson Street, near Clinton Avenue in Huntsville. Paramedics will care for mock victims as part of today’s drill. The Huntsville Police and Fire Department will also be participating. Railroad officials and members of Operation Lifesaver will be on hand.

The drill is hoped to decrease the number of train related fatalities by raising public awareness about the dangers of being around railroad tracks.

Trespassing is illegal and can be deadly.
