HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Huntsville Animal Services hosted a Pet Rally on Saturday morning. The event gave the shelter the opportunity to invite the community out and hopefully find families for their growing number of homeless pets.

Many of the cats and dogs are strays or pets abandoned by their owners. The shelter is required to take in any animals that are brought to them, but when they reach maximum capacity, they have no choice but to euthanize.

“It’s a very emotional process for us,” said Karen Buchan, an employee of the shelter. “We want them to find a forever home.”

The Pet Rally allows the public to visit the animals that aren’t yet in the adoption area of the shelter, but still need a home.  The event is held on the first Saturday of every month.

The kennel’s adoption hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Adoption rates range from free to $93. The fee includes rabies vaccination, spaying or neutering and an identification tag and collar.

Huntsville Animal Services is located at 4950 Triana Boulevard SW.  The phone number is (256) 883-3782.
