Deputies continue search for whoever killed Ardmore man

LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. – Limestone County authorities are conducting a shooting investigation on Ardmore Avenue near Hwy 251 in Ardmore. Thursday evening just before midnight, they wrapped things up at the scene to resume in the morning.

The sheriff’s department confirmed that a 74-year-old man was found fatally shot in the back yard of the residence just after 7:30 p.m.

Deputy Stephen Young says the man and his wife were inside when they heard a noise in the backyard. The woman told authorities that he went outside to check on the noise and she heard gunshots shortly after. Law enforcement responded and found the man dead in the backyard with gunshot wounds.

Law enforcement officers deployed tracking dogs in the area. Authorities say the shooter may have left the area on foot. The dogs, as of midnight Friday morning, were unable to find him.

There are no identified suspects at this time. Deputies are collecting evidence and trying to piece together what happened.

Authorities say that people in the area should make sure that their doors and windows are locked, stay inside, and ask that they call the sheriff’s department if they see anything suspicious, including someone just walking around.
