1 hospitalized, police say alcohol likely a factor in Winchester road wreck

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Winchester Road is back open after officials investigated a two-vehicle wreck that closed the roadway.

Officials say the wreck happened just after 3:00 a.m. Thursday on Winchester Road not far from Blue Spring Road.

Officials say a female driver, 24, with a passenger, 24, was heading south on Trent Drive when she ran a stop sign at the intersection of Trent and Winchester.

Officials say the car was struck on the passenger side by a vehicle pulling a trailer and traveling eastbound on Winchester.

The passenger was taken to Huntsville Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the report. Police say the passenger is expected to survive but has extensive injuries. They have notified her family.

The driver was transported with minor injuries and has been released.

Police say alcohol may have been a factor in the wreck.

This is an ongoing investigation.
