GULF SHORES (CNN) — Increasingly choppy surf along Alabama’s Gulf Coast has led officials in one county to ban swimming.
Even before then, swimmers were being very cautious when braving the surf prior the Thursday’s ban.
According to one swimmer, waist deep was as far as he and his brother would risk, due to the strong current
Because you can actively feel the current pulling at you, many parents wouldn’t let their children in the water past knee level.
Before Thursday’s ban, officials say about half a dozen swimmers had to be pulled from the water on beaches in the area.
At least one person needed medical attention.
Public safety officials say the surf will continue to build as long as high winds are present.
They are continuing to monitor conditions on Friday.
