HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - We're just days away from the best time for weekend parties: football season.

Friday, August 22nd is WHNT NEWS 19's first "Football Friday" event, kicking off high school football.

The following weekend is the first one for SEC football.

Now is the time to get thinking about how to save money while enjoying the game.

Its been said the best seat in the house can be your living room, sharing the action with your closest friends and maybe rivals.

WHNT started looking for money-saving ideas on Pinterest, where someone pinned a link to a blog on Better Homes and Gardens.

It suggested to bring your tailgating party inside to keep costs down and lay out a good spread of munchies.

Now's the perfect time to visit your closest dollar store to stock up on game day snacks.

At Dollar Tree, you can find bags of all the necessities for one dollar each: chips, dip, popcorn, candy, nuts, drinks.  They all cost much less for each than what you would pay at a big box store.

Another money-saving trick to add to your party spread is to ask your guests to bring a dish for everyone to share.

Finally, set the mood for the party.  Go online to eBay or Amazon where you can find party sets and decorations for a few bucks with no shipping charge.   Or save even more by using real dishes instead paper plates and cups.
