GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. — The zip line course at Lake Guntersville State Park will be open to the public Thursday, May 26.
A zip line course that has been under discussion for years and under construction for months zig zags its way through areas of Lake Guntersville State Park. The course is the first phase. On Thursday, it will be open to the public.
“What we’ve been able to do is partner with a private business to bring a new recreational opportunity to Lake Guntersville State Park, and that’s this aerial adventures system, what a lot of people call zip lines,” explains State Parks Director Greg Lein.
State and local officials commemorated the course’s completion Friday with a ribbon cutting. “By partnering with the private sector, we’ve been able to do this with no cost to the park system,” Lein said, “In fact, they will share a percentage of the business with the park.”
The course is $59 per person for level one. Level two will follow in a matter of months. The course will be open year round. Restrictions include an age limit of at least eight years old and a weight limit of at least 50 pounds. It takes up to two hours to go through the course.
Officials say the course adds one more opportunity to grow tourism in Marshall County. “It just makes the park a better opportunity for the public, and we’re thrilled with that,” Lein says.
