GRANT, Ala. (WHNT) — A Walmart Neighborhood Market opened its doors to the Grant area several weeks ago, and after a meeting Wednesday town leaders say that property will officially be in the town of Grant.

The Walmart Neighborhood Market is located on Cathedral Caverns Highway. If you travel just a few more feet you’ll hit the Grant town limits.

Mayor Larry Walker says the town has been working with Walmart for some time to get that property annexed into the town. “Walmart had indicated to us, really in the middle of October, that they did plan to annex into the town,” Mayor Walker says.

There is a lot of paperwork involved, but Mayor Walker says both organizations have been in constant contact with each other about the plans.

Mayor Walker says the process initially was thought to take only a few days, but it turned into a few weeks.

The process is coming to a close. Officials say they are getting in the final paperwork, and as a result, plan to hold a meeting on Wednesday to finalize the process.

Mayor Walker says the meeting will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday.
