ARAB, Ala. – The Arab Police Department received a call Tuesday around 7:45 a.m. about a car accident on Highway 231.  An Alabama Department of Transportation truck rear ended a vehicle, causing a domino affect. A total of seven cars were involved in the wreck.

“There was one driver that was injured and they were flown from the scene and taken to Huntsville Hospital. The rest of the drivers had very minor injuries,” says Shane Washburn, Assistant Chief at Arab Police Department.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing but they have reason to believe the accident was caused by simple driver-error.

“Right now we just investigate the accident. We’ll look at where the vehicles were placed, skid marks, things of that nature, and try to bring everything together to try to determine exactly what caused the accident,” says Chief Washburn.

With Highway 231 being the main drag in the city, it is prone to several accidents.  Chief Washburn wants to leave you all with a few tips when traveling on this road.

“Always pay attention to what you’re doing. Never be distracted. Do not be on your phone or looking around or messing with you radio and things of that nature. And just always keep a good safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you so that if you need to stop quickly you can do that without striking the vehicle in front of you.”
