RAGLAND, AL – The St. Clair County Sheriff will hold a news conference at 1 p.m. to discuss the death of an 8-year-old girl.

Authorities say Katelynn Arnold’s death is “very suspicious” but haven’t said anything further.

Late Thursday, Arnold was found hanging from a tree at her family’s home at 85 Poplar Ridge Lane.  She was tied to a rope that was once part of an old tire swing.

The Ragland Police Department. St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office and St. Clair County Coroner’s Office are investigating the case.  Coroner Dennis Russell said Arnold’s body was taken to the forensics lab in Huntsville.

Arnold was a student at Ragland Elementary School.  The school is bringing in grief counselors today to talk with her classmates.

Ragland is about 45 minutes southeast of Gadsden.
