BOAZ, Ala. (WHNT) – Investigators have released the name of a woman who died following an apartment fire in Boaz on Tuesday.

The victim was Linda Ann Delong, 63.  Boaz Fire Captain Mike Garmany said no one else was injured.

At 11:31 a.m., Boaz Fire and Rescue responded to the call of a fire at the Adams Crossing apartment complex, building number 500. Witnesses report seeing flames in the windows of an apartment.

Garmany said firefighters suppressed the flames in an apartment where they found the victim. First aid was immediately administered.

The victim reportedly sustained major injuries and was taken by Amed to Marshall Medical Center South. From there, she was transported by air to UAB’s Burn Center in Birmingham. On the flight to UAB, she died from her injuries.

The state fire marshal will investigate the cause of the fire.

“Normally, if there is a residential structure fire with no injuries and nothing suspicious in nature, the local fire marshal will work the investigation,” Garmany said. “In this case, we don’t think there is anything suspicious about the fire, but we want to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted. The state fire marshal had more resources at his disposal.”
