MENTONE, Ala. – A longstanding business in Mentone caught fire early Wednesday morning.  Sadly, the Mentone Market was heavily damaged by flames.

Mentone Fire Chief Joseph Lee said firefighters got the call at 3 a.m. and were on the scene within three minutes.

Chief Lee said he doesn’t believe the fire is related to recent wildfires affecting the town and surrounding areas.  He’s not sure of the cause at this point, but there will be an investigation.

Please avoid Highway 117 in Mentone — traffic is down to one lane for now as firefighters continue to put out hotspots.

WHNT News 19 is working to get more details.  We’ll update as this continues to develop.
