MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. – Probate Judge Tim Mitchell announced Tuesday that the Marshall County Probate Office will no longer issue any marriage licenses, pending an Alabama Supreme Court decision.

Mitchell said that his office is waiting on a ruling on an emergency petition by the Alabama Supreme Court before the probate office resumes issuing marriage licenses to any couple.

Last week, a federal judge in Alabama ordered Mobile County to start issuing marriage licenses to same sex couples.
