GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) -- Police say they are following leads on several suspects to try to identify a man wanted for robbing a Marshall County bank Thursday.

Turner said the man went into the Peoples Bank on Highway 431 just before 3 p.m.

Investigator Mike Turner described the suspect as a black man between 5'10" and 6' tall, and said he wore a white t-shirt and jeans.

"We're investigating it as an armed robbery," Turner said.

Right now the FBI, they're helping us with the investigation of it and they're looking at some different avenues of charges."

Turner said the suspect ran away from the bank on foot, and officers set up a perimeter and used a canine unit.

Investigators have not said if he had a gun, but he made bank employees think he did.

"The teller was very traumatized," he said.

"It does not make a difference if they expose a weapon or not, just the point of them acting in a manner as if they do have a weapon."

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office launched its helicopter Thursday afternoon to assist in the search for the bank robber.

"The helicopter search was very helpful," Turner said.

"We're continuing to follow up with leads today and if anyone has any information at all, that might have been in the area or around the area, and seen anything out of the norm, please call the Guntersville Police Department."

Contact detectives at (256) 571-7571.

Corey Jones said he was arriving at work at a nearby business when he saw the man sprint through the parking lot.

"The guy actually looked like he jumped the wall by the bank and took off sprinting," Jones  said.

"Cop cars started getting here, and people started crowding in.  It was a weird scene, people asking if we knew anything, and all the cops came in to take interviews."
