SYLVANIA, Ala. – A DeKalb County man turned himself in to authorities this week after an incident on Saturday, April 23 where he reportedly shot a weapon, striking a teen in the hip.

Ronnie Lee Neeley, 64, of Sylvania is charged with menacing, discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle and assault.

DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said some teens were trying to roll Neeley’s neighbor’s yard with toilet paper on Saturday.  Neeley got upset and allegedly fired some shots in the air and then through the tailgate of one of the teen’s trucks.  That shot struck a teen in the hip.

The teen was taken to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga by DeKalb Ambulance Service, where he was treated and released.

“This is a traumatic incident that could have been tragic had the bullet taken a different path. We are very thankful that the child did not suffer any more injury than he did,” said Sheriff Harris.
