GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. -- Guntersville's first amusement park is set to open April 15 at noon.
Lake City Amusement Park is seasonal. It will be open April through October. "Noon until ten are the hours every day. We'll be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Memorial Day weekend, and then Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day we'll be open seven days a week noon to ten," park marketing director Jay Velez says, "After Labor Day we'll go back to three days a week, noon to ten, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday."
The park will boast more than 30 rides including a roller coaster and splash pad. There is also an amphitheater, with a plan to have live music and acts about every weekend.
There was some concern from residents about the noise level. "We'll close at ten o'clock every night, so we're not going real late or anything like that, and most of the concerts will start at seven and end at nine o'clock is what we're planning. Eight thirty, nine o'clock," explains Velez.
Some residents are also voicing concerns about the lights. Park officials say the lights are meant to light up the immediate area.
The rides will be checked each time before use. "Before we open, we're having an organization, the most respected in the country, come out and inspect every single ride before we open and then we're doing that on our own," Velez says.
The park plans to hire employees from the area, with its own security and off duty police officers on site.
"If you don't have kids, if you have kids, you're older, you're younger, we'll have something for everybody," Velez explains.
