POWELL, Ala. (WHNT) — Police and deputies in DeKalb County are looking for two men who robbed a bank Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Jimmy Harris said the men entered Horizon Bank in Powell around 11:30 a.m.

Harris said one had a handgun and the other a shotgun, and demanded money.
Investigators said they got away with about 10-thousand dollars, and witnesses described the getaway vehicle as an older model maroon four door sedan.

Harris said officers throughout the county began to watch the roads for the vehicle, and deputies found a Chevrolet Caprice matching the description less than a mile away from the bank, in a field on Sears Avenue.  Its engine and windshield wipers were still running.

“We’ve got the state helicopter en route in case they’re here,” Sheriff Harris said.

“We think they had another vehicle over there,” and switched cars to escape.

Harris said none of the bank employees were hurt during the robbery.

“They handled it real well.  They did exactly what they were supposed to do.  They backed up, gave them the money.  They’re nervous and shaking but they’re doing okay,” he said.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video of the robbery, and said they hoped to get clear images of the robbers to release later to WHNT News 19.
