JACKSON COUNTY, Ala. – A large fire caused heavy damage to a carpet fiber company Wednesday morning.  Southern Wholesale Fibers, near Highway 71 in the Higdon/Bryant area, caught fire about 11 a.m.

More than a dozen fire departments responded to help put out the fire.  About five people were inside when the building caught fire, but they got out safely.

No one was injured, but the extreme heat is a concern for firefighters.

The back portion of the building was destroyed, and much of the factory has smoke damage.

Southern Wholesale Fibers makes padding that goes underneath carpet, and recycles fabrics for other purposes.
