JACKSON COUNTY, Ala. – A train derailment shut down a road in Woodville Monday morning.

County Road 8 was closed to all through traffic because of the derailment, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Clean up crews were out all night and day Tuesday. A foreman of Norfolk Southern, Chance Henson said his crew had been working to clean up the debris and fix the train tracks since 3:00 a.m.

“They had a bunch of people out here last night, they worked all night getting it ready and then we came in this morning,” said Henson.

Several boxcars derailed, blocking one lane of traffic, authorities said.

Henson said about 26 cars derailed and it was all caused by a broken weld.

No one was injured in the accident.

Henson says they plan to have the mess cleaned up by Wednesday morning.
