DeKalb Sheriff’s Office Charges Man with Murder Following Wednesday Shooting

MOUNT VERNON, Ala. (WHNT) – DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris reports that a man has been arrested and charged with murder following a shooting death on Wednesday.

Christopher Todd Landers, 35 of the Mount Vernon Community on Lookout Mountain is charged with murder in the death of Michael Lynn Jenkins, 65, also of Mount Vernon.

Harris says Landers was detained at the crime scene Wednesday after 911 calls were made from his residence indicating a person had been shot. Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was transported to Huntsville for an autopsy at the Alabama Department of Forensics Science Thursday morning.

Charges were filed Thursday after Harris consulted with District Attorney Mike O’Dell and a review of the evidence.

Landers’ bond has been set at $100,000.00 He is being held at the DeKalb County Detention Center at this time. The investigation into this homicide is continuing and further leads are being pursued to determine what caused this death.

Harris stated, “This is a terrible situation for both families. We will continue to work this case as long as it takes to get everything needed to get this before a jury. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the family members involved with this tragic death.”
