DeKalb County man charged with child sex abuse; worked for local school

FORT PAYNE, Ala. (WHNT) – A DeKalb County man has been charged in a child sex abuse case.  Jesse Pat Watson, 51, was booked in the DeKalb County Jail on Friday, May 15.

He is charged with seven counts of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old.

Watson was released on bond Tuesday.

Sylvania School’s principal, Westley King, confirmed to WHNT News 19 Watson did work for the school as a janitor.  The principal said Watson was removed from the staff upon his arrest.  Principal King issued this statement on Tuesday afternoon:

“We are saddened to learn of the off-campus behavior that has resulted in the arrest of a former school employee. The school had no prior knowledge about the allegations that have been made against the former employee, and to our knowledge there have been no acts of misconduct on school campus.”

Investigators have not released any details about Watson’s charges.  They also haven’t said if any students were involved in the case.
