COLLINSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A Collinsville man is charged with murder after his mother was found unresponsive earlier this week.
According to a spokesperson with the Collinsville Police Department (CPD), officers received a call to a home on Watts Avenue where they discovered an unresponsive woman in her living room with a single gunshot wound.
DeKalb County Coroner Tom Wilson identified the woman as 62-year-old Sandra Jelks. Police claim Jelks was pronounced dead by medics on the scene.
Police say the suspect, identified by DeKalb County deputies 41-year-old Bruce Lee Jones, was found on foot and detained. Jones was identified by authorities as Jelks’ son.
Jones was charged with murder and is being held in the Cherokee County Detention Center on a $1,000,000 bond.
The spokesperson said there is no danger or threat to the community.
Collinsville Police were assisted by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, Crossville Police, drug task force agents, the Jacksonville State University (JSU) Center of Forensics, and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, who will lead the investigation.
