JACKSON COUNTY, Ala. – Jackson County deputies say they found a dead body Friday during a missing person investigation. Officials say the Sheriff’s Office along with the Scottsboro Police Department and Madison County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit were searching a home and two campers on County Road 86 in Woodville, Alabama at the time.

“Last weekend we received some information of a possible homicide that had occurred in the Woodville area. We began the investigation last Monday,” Sheriff Chuck Phillips said.

Deputies served search warrants at a home on County Road 86 near the Marshall / Jackson County line on Friday. “On into the night Friday night we located a body,” Phillips said.

It was buried in the woods across the street.  “We feel sure that it is a person who had been missing or reported missing out of Huntsville,” Phillips explained.

He added they aren’t going to release the name until they get a positive ID. “The body is at forensics at this time and an autopsy is being performed,” Phillips said.

More details, like the motive, could unfold this week.

There are two people in jail on unrelated charges and deputies could make an arrest later this week.

Multiple agencies from multiple counties helped in the investigation. “Without their help it would have made this job extremely harder than it was,” Phillips said.
