ALBERTIVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Albertville police are investigating what they believe could be a homicide at a residence on Valley View Drive.

“Early Thursday morning we recieved a call that some neighbors had noticed a residence over on Valley View, the door looked like it had been kicked in,” Albertville Police Chief Doug Pollard says.

Officers found Willie Harris Coleman Jr, 22, of Tuskegee, Ala.,  dead inside the home.  “Through some of our investigation we started treating it as a homicide,” Chief Pollard says.

Albertville Assistant Chief of Police Jamie Smith said Coleman had been staying in Albertville for the last couple of months and had possibly been staying at the residence where the incident occurred for the last few weeks.

Coleman’s body is at Forensic Sciences in Huntsville where an autopsy was performed  to determine a preliminary cause of death. Police say they haven’t gotten those results back yet.

Detectives from the Albertville Police Department, with assistance from surrounding law enforcement agencies, are following leads. Saturday investigators conducted a round of interviews on the case.  “We’ve interviewed several people who’s given us leads to go further and further, but the leads they are giving us are not working out like we thought they would be,” Chief Pollard says.

But he says after speaking with those people and others involved investigators feel more confident that a homicide is what they’re dealing with. Chief Pollard says they’re getting closer to finding answers, but still haven’t named a suspect yet. “Right now we don’t have a person of interest but we are still following leads, and still receiving leads every hour.”
