Nintendo President Satoru Iwata passes away at 55

(WHNT) – Nintendo issued a brief statement stating that President Satoru Iwata passed away on Saturday, July 11th.

Iwata was appointed president in May of 2002. He oversaw the release of the Nintendo Wii in 2006.

He worked on many classic games including titles in the Mario line and Zelda series.

He was appointed CEO of Nintendo of America in June 2013.
