GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) -  Residents of Guntersville and Marshall County will gather Thursday night to celebrate the grand opening of a very important place for anyone impacted by cancer - a new treatment center.

The new Marshall Cancer Care Center in Guntersville actually opens on Monday, July 15, to clients.

It will provide a place for radiation, medical oncology for cancer patients, and treatment of blood disorders, including anemia.

It's a 22,000 square foot building set up next to the Marshall Professional Center on US Highway 431 North.

Three oncologists make up the physician team there and will be able to use the Trilogy Linear Accelerator, a system that cost more than $2 million and is a first for north Alabama.  It delivers radiation therapy with greatly increased speed and accuracy, so patients benefit from much faster treatment times.

The new center comes, in part, from $2.5 million donated by the community for the project.

The new center is affiliated with the UAB Cancer Care Network.

The grand opening is Thursday night, July 11, from 6-8 p.m.
