MOBILE, Ala. – A police officer and someone investigators are calling a suspect were both shot early this morning after a suspected drug deal and chase, that’s according to CBS affiliate WKRG.

It happened at a gas station near the I-10 exit in Grand Bay.

Investigators say the officer, who was shot twice, was taken to the University of South Alabama Medical Center. We understand the officer is expected to recover.

Officers say a suspect was also shot.

Witnesses say an undercover drug deal seems to have led up to the shooting at a nearby Waffle House. The suspect was reportedly meeting people behind the restaurant when undercover officers turned their car lights on. That’s when the accused dealer attempted to drive away on a motorcycle.

Witnesses say he was chased to a nearby gas station, which is where the shooting happened.

The suspect is in critical condition.
