HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – As state political leaders await word from the U.S. Supreme Court on a stay, people who support gay marriage are preparing for Wedding Week across the state.
Wedding Week has a blog detailing Huntsville’s activities. It lists information about marriage licenses, which will available starting Monday, February 9 at all county courthouses in Alabama. Most probate judges have said they will not marry any couples now, gay or straight, but they must distribute licenses to all couples starting that day.
Wedding Week was initially scheduled to take place outside of the Madison County Courthouse, but the event has been moved to Big Spring Park East due to the expected crowds.
The Wedding Week blog also has a link for volunteers who want to help perform marriages, help with registration, photography, music, cakes, flowers and other services.
On the blog’s homepage, the creators also clearly state the focus of Wedding Week.
“Please note that while this necessarily takes place within a larger political context, this is not a political event,” the website states. “The purpose of this event is to perform and celebrate marriages.”
